Francis Joseph Costello
Postdoctoral Researcher
CUHK Business School · Department of Decisions, Operations, and Technology
I earned my PhD in Management Information Systems (MIS) in 2024 from SKK Business School in Soul, South Kore. I currently work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at CUHK Business School (Department of Decisions, Operations and Technology, MIS Group), where I am contracted through June 2026. My research examines digital intermediation and how digital platforms shape markets and decision-making, with work spanning AI, open innovation, IS entrepreneurship, and subscription economics using causal inference, behavioral experiments, and computational methods.
My teaching emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning. At CUHK, I designed and taught a Generative AI submodule in FinTech Analytics, delivered invited lectures in IT Management and Business Analytics (including introductory Python), and served as a teaching assistant in multiple AI-related IS courses.
In September 2026, I will join NOVA School of Business and Economics as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Operations, Technology and Innovation Management (OTIM) department (technology group) where I will be teaching courses on Machine Learning and Data Visualization.
Beyond research and teaching, I value collaboration and collegiality. Having lived and worked in East Asia for over a decade, I bring adaptability and respect for diverse perspectives. I believe effective academic work is built on trust, openness, and care for colleagues and students, values that guide my professional interactions. Whether someone needs to discuss research ideas, share professional concerns, or simply talk through life's challenges, I pride myself as someone who will also make the time to listen and provide thoughtful, caring feedback. I am always open to opportunities to connect. Feel free to reach out via the contact page or connect with me on LinkedIn.
